Учитываемые в платежном балансе (balance of payments) операции, в процессе которых одна из стран, участвующих во внешнеторговых операциях, передает стоимостные ценности (economic value), созданные национальной экономикой, а другая страна предоставляет взамен свой равный по стоимости продукт. Стоимостный объем как продукт обмена подразделяется на две категории — реальные ресурсы (real resources), включающие в себя товары, услуги и доходы (goods, services, income) и финансовые средства (financial items ).
